Beginning with a section on planning your patterns, the first few chapters cover issues such as sourcing your inspiration, a guide to colour, and an explanation of pattern and layout types. The chapter on making patterns then takes you through designing your motif, explaining how to create different layouts by using straight pattern repeat, half-drop repeat, or brick repeat patterns. The reader is then shown how to create different prints with a selection of tools from rubber block stamps, foam stamps, stencils and silk screens.
There are also a number of projects for the reader to try, from foam stamping a tote bag to printing gift wrap, stencilling borders and printing on tiles.
