Paint and art series

With so many things to do with our money nowadays it is almost impossible to set aside some money to re-model our homes. However, you don’t need thousands of pounds to transform your rooms. Here are a few ways you can breathe new life into your home without it costing the earth:

Evaluate

Go through all the items that you have in the room and decide on what gets to stay, what needs repair and what is too damaged to keep. You can also make use of this opportunity to get rid of things you just don’t like and make money from getting rid of your clutter.

Re-arrange

Moving furniture around gives your room a whole new look. If after some lifting and pushing your room now appeals to you then your makeover has been one of the cheapest on record. Good for you!

Repair

Do you have ailing furniture in need of repair or an item or two that you’re just bored with? If so, it’s time to get creative! Sand down wooden pieces, give them a coat or two of primer undercoat and finish off with a chalk paint for a quick and easy makeover. Dining chairs can gain a whole new lease of life by changing the seat covers with some new fabric and tired, old drawers can be transformed with a little decoupage! The question isn’t what can you do, but will you have enough projects to sate your creative appetite?

Go second-hand

In the event that you need to buy a few new things then visit some car boot sales, flea markets and antique stores. You will be surprised by treasures you can pick up!

Get new rugs

Replace tattered carpets with some lovely and inexpensive rugs that are available online. A natural wooden floor backdrop shows them off perfectly, and the rugs add new depth to your home as well as keeping you warm under foot.

Accessorise

If there isn’t much you can do to change your old sofas why not revamp them with some colourful new pillows and throws that will steal all the attention away from them. Whether you go for the eclectic look or a complementary colour scheme, layer them up and create a sumptuous seating area that begs you to relax in.

Re-paint

What’s that wall colour you have always loved but never had the guts to use? Well, here’s your opportunity to express yourself. You don’t even have to paint the whole room to create a new look. Choose one wall on which you’ll add a splash of colour to the whole room which will make a big difference alone.

Modify your lighting

This could simply mean dimming your lights or changing the colour of your bulbs. If you really want to create a different look, switch your shade to something different. Wrought iron work or crystal chandelier; whatever you choose will transform your room with a completely new look.

Show off

Each one of has some nice photos they have tucked away in some album or stuck on the computer hard drive, but it is now time to show them to the world. Choose a handful or strategically placed frames, or opt for a photo feature wall packed with memories.

Transform your windows

Bring in some new curtains or blinds that will change the way light enters your house. Lighter panels give a summery feel while heavier, thicker curtains keep the cold out while also keeping draughts at bay.
