How to Maximise Space in your Bathroom

Dealing with limited bathroom space can be quite a challenge. If you have too many objects cluttering it up, it looks messy despite how organised it is. If you have nothing in the room however, it looks cold and empty. You need to find the perfect balance while also making sure that you have adequate storage to make the most of the room.

Light it right

Good lighting is essential – if you choose the right sort, the room will look larger, clearer, and of course, brighter. This goes for any room, not just bathrooms.

Have a sliding door rather than a traditional swinging door

By having a door that doesn’t take up so much floor space, your bathroom will feel more open.

Fit shelves in wherever possible

Just because you don’t have the space to have large shelves, doesn’t mean you can’t have mini ones to hold smaller objects. If you’re more of a person who likes to keep things hidden, go for long thin cabinets.

Plan ahead

If you are fitting a completely new bathroom, go for a wall-mounted toilet and basin. Or alternatively, choose a sink with a cupboard underneath so you can keep all of your toiletries hidden. Also, keep your bathroom colour scheme light. It’ll give the impression of more space.

Keep it open

Avoid a glass shower or bath screen. Opt for a curtain that you can push back when not in use, as obstructing the view makes it look more cramped.

Do something different

Convert the entire bathroom into a wetroom. This converts the whole room into a shower, removing the need for a cubicle. It’s great for tiny bathrooms as, when space is at a premium, every little counts.

Keep as few items as possible on display

If they’re things that you use daily then they can be on show, but keep them in a pretty basket or bowl to make the area look neater and clearer. Anything else should be tucked away in a cupboard when not in use.

Depending on how much space you have to work with and your budget, you will be able to improve the appearance of your bathroom using a few or all of the steps. Do you have a space-saving tip to share? Let us know in the comments below!
